Pride is often described as "that feeling deep within that makes you proud of yourself and makes you want to do your best." One who has pride perseveres towards a goal and often succeeds - he/she makes a difference.

There have been individuals (students, parents, staff, graduates and community members) whose efforts and contributions have made McKinley High School one of the best schools in Hawaii.

Currently, there is no program being planned by the administration to recognize these individuals whose contributions led to the progress of the school. Therefore, the presentation of the Tiger Pride Award by the McKinley Alumni Association, which began in 2003, is an attempt to provide due recognition to deserving individuals.
