The East Room at the Pagoda Hotel will be the setting for the gala 70th Reunion for this class on November 4, 2003. This class meets regularly every year with attendance of about 120, including classmates and spouses and friends, but for this important milestone event, hopes to double that number.

Please join us in celebrating our attendance at McKinley High School when World War II started, and for the fact that we are still here after 62 years. This year also marks our 80th birthday. This invitation is extended to all members of the class of 1943 – those who graduated with the class and those who received their diplomas later due to the wartime situation. We may not recognize each other, so name tags will be provided at the door.

We have no formal organization to handle RSVPs and finances. Consequently, the Treetops Restaurant management has agreed to take individual reservations. Each person will be responsible for making their own reservations and paying for themselves and any guest(s) you wish to bring (guests are welcomed). Please call Treetops beginning in June 2005, and at least 2 weeks prior to July 8 to make your reservations. That is, call from June 1 to June 24. Mention that your reservation is for the 1943 McKinley Class Reunion. Payment will be made at the reunion when you enter.

We realize that many of us no longer drive, so please note that the city bus no longer goes to the Treetops Restaurant, and that you’ll need to plan your transportation needs accordingly.

Please bring your memorabilia, annuals from McKinley High and Washington/Central Intermediate, photos, clippings, etc. for sharing. Whatever you have to share will be placed on a table, so we ask that you attach your name to each item for safe return to you.

A 1943 alumni list (March ’04 list) had been obtained from the McKinley Alumni Association and it was found that only 19 classmates were signed up as Alumni Association members. The cost for a lifetime membership is only $5. Those who attend the reunion on July 8 may fill an application at that time to join the Alumni Association. I will compile a list of the 1943 alumni member list and distribute a copy to each member in attendance at the reunion.

Class of 1946

Classmates will have three chances to celebrate their 80-year birthday during 2008.

The first event of "Celebration 80" starts with a Birthday Luncheon at the Honolulu Country Club in Salt Lake at 10 a.m. on March 16, 2008.

"Celebration 80" continues with a Talk-Story 4 Reunion at the California Hotel, Las Vegas from September 15-19, 2008.

It all ends with Roland's Japan Autumn Tour from October 19-31, 2008.

While interest runs high and reservations are tight for couple of the events, classmates are advised to join in the celebration of this most significant milestone of their lives. Class of 1947

Class of 1949

The 60th Reunion is being planned for next year in Las Vegas and Hawaii. For more information, please contact Tommy at (808) 236-7371 or Gladys at (808) 955-1079.

Class of 1952

A reunion is scheduled for May 30 to June 4, 2005 in Las Vegas with a side trip to Mesquite (June 1-2). Golfers will be playing in the “Friends of McKinley” Golf Tournament in Mesquite. Other activities include a social, a slot tournament, rafting, shopping, etc. If interested, call Richard Sakamoto at (808) 988-6661.

Class of 1953

Plans are still intact for the 70th birthday reunion on Thursday, September 29 to Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Main Street Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A golf tournament is also being planned for that Friday and Saturday, and a banquet for Saturday evening. It’s not too late to sign up, but please do it as soon as possible, advises Thomas Hayashi, who can be contacted at (310) 534-1555.

The Kawananakoa Class of 1950 (including Farrington classmates) will be having a luncheon on Wednesday, July 20, 2005. Call Joan at (808) 839-4415 and leave a message.

Class of 1954

55th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Reunion Committee has completed plans for our 55th Anniversary Celebration. This will be a two part celebration: on-island activities in October 2008 include a welcoming Celebration Brunch at the Tree Top Restaurant, and a day long tour of Pearl Harbor museums and memorials. In March 2009, we gather in Las Vegas to complete our 55th Anniversary Celebration. Planned activities are: Welcoming Brunch, Slot Tournament, Gala Banquet, and Shopping Trip.

2008 Scheduled Events

Saturday, February 2, 2008 - Participate in the McKinley Alumni Association's Annual Brunch to recognize the Hall of Honor Inductees and the Tiger Pride Awardees. Time is from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. Cost is $40.00 per person or $50.00 per person (includes a $10.00 donation to the Association).

Sunday, April 13, 2008 - Be in the audience for the McKinley Alumni Association's 7th Annual Karaoke Challenge. The show is preceded by a bento lunch. Time for the bento lunch is from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the school cafeteria, and the show is from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the auditorium. The cost is $20.00 per person.

Thursday, April 17, 2008 - Class of '57 Tiggers Golf Tournament at the Ewa Village Golf Course. Time and cost to be announced.

Thursday, April 17, 2008 - Class of '57 Golf Tournament 19th Hole & Karaoke Get-together. The location is at the HMC Karaoke in Pearl City. The time is from 6:00 PM to closing. Cost to be announced.

Saturday, April 19, 2008 - Class of '57 Mini-Reunion Luncheon. This activity will take place at the Hale Ikena Club at Ft. Shafter. The time is from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, and the cost is $20.00 per person.

Friday, July 11, 2008 - Participate in the McKinley Alumni Association's Ohana Golf Tournament at the Ala Wai Golf Course. Time and cost to be announced.

Monday thru Friday, September 15 thru 19, 2008 - Class of '57 Annual Las Vegas Visit. All information to be announced.
